Andorra

Europe

  Catalan Currency:  Euro

Ruled jointly by both the leader of France and Spanish Bishop of Urgell for more than 700 years, this country isn't without great history.

Andorra is one of the smallest countries in Europe and the sixteenth smallest country in the world: approximately 40km from one end to the other. With only 85,000 people, It isn't commonly known that Andorra is a country. To add to its unique nature as well as its own gem-like history, Andorra is still ruled jointly by France's leader and the Spanish Bishop of Urgell - presently, Emmanuel Macron and Joan Enric Vives Sicilia. They are known as the Co-Princes of Andorra and this means they are the joint heads of state. This agreement goes back 1278.

Moving on from its Co-principality, Catalan is the official language of Andorra. Andorra is full of beautiful landmarks from castles to churches, museums including one on its tobacco history, and full of ski areas, which it is most commonly known for.
