Ever since its opening in 1962, with Laurence Olivier at the helm as artistic director, the Festival Theatre has enjoyed a sterling reputation as one of the UK's best theatres. It consistently puts on high-quality shows that often go on to the West End or Broadway.
Chichester Festival Theatre is located in the pleasant Oaklands Park, just a 20-minute walk from the train station. Next door to the main building is the Minerva Theatre, a smaller venue built in 1989. This more intimate section of the theatre complex seats 310 spectators. Shows take place year-round, but it's during the Festival season from June to July that these theatres really come to life.
If you're lucky enough to see a show here, be sure to grab a bit at the adjoining restaurant, which has a delectable pre-theatre menu.
