A farm in the city? Yes, that's right. And it's the perfect destination to take the kids for a few hours or walk through when you find yourself on the Isle of Dogs, located right near the infamous Canary Wharf. A local nature reserve, Mudchute farm homes horses and numerous farm animals from llamas to pigs. With even a pen for smaller animals such as chicken and ducks, this is the a must just for the experience of a farm in the big smoke.
With paths located throughout and a cafe on site (and a huge supermarket located on one side of the farm), you won't be short of supplies. When heading to the field that homes the cows and sheep throughout the day, you get exceptional views of Canary Wharf (the financial scene) juxtaposing with the lush green grass - your mind will be blown.
Note: the farm is a local charity which runs via donations and lovely volunteers - the charity helps with environmental projects and even hosts schools for educational purposes. Donations are welcome to make sure everyone can access a farm, especially children in the city who aren't lucky enough to venture out to the countryside.
During the London Marathon, runners pass the farm on their way which is dotted with a pubs and cheerful crowds. This makes the perfect location on the day. To visit the farm, you have an option of three DLR stations: Island Gardens, Mudchute Farm and Crossharbour. Also located right next to Millwall park if you need to sit down and relax.
