For an off-the-beaten-track experience that feels miles away from Sanremo’s gambling culture, visit La Pigna. This area, which means ‘the pinecone’ in Italian, is the oldest part of Sanremo.
Spend an afternoon here and you’ll find yourself wandering through narrow streets and covered alleyways that wind uphill. At the top, you’ll discover the 17th-century Madonna della Costa, the sanctuary and the main religious building in Sanremo.
There are also lovely squares and pastel buildings along the way, so be sure to bring your camera to capture La Pigna’s charm.
