Vernazza is one of the five towns that make up Cinque Terre, a beautiful region on the Italian Riviera filled with pastel-coloured houses hugging the coast. (The other towns are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, and Monterosso). Vernazza's quaint harbour and the iconic Belforte Tower set this town apart from the rest, making it (arguably) the best one to visit, if you had to choose. It's the fourth Cinque Terre town on the route heading north and has the only natural port in the area.
If you're visiting Vernazza for a quick lunch break while roadtripping around the area, there are plenty of seaside restaurants and bars where you can sit for a few hours and enjoy the Mediterranean view. If you've got a sweet tooth, Gelateria Vernazza on Via Roma is an absolute must!
Other than gorging yourself on Italian treats, there are plenty of other things to do in Vernazza. For sensational views, pay a visit to Doria Castle (Castello Doria) and the aforementioned Belforte Tower. Entry to the castle is €1.50.
The 14th-century Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia, located in Piazza Marconi, is another top attraction. And if you're more of an outdoorsy type, take a hike on one of the many popular footpaths surrounding the town.
