Latvian/Lettish Currency:  Euro
Much like many countries in the region, Latvia was devastated by the world wars of the 20th century. As a result, the country's cities are a complex combination of some of Europe's finest classical architecture and stark remnants of the wars' destruction and decades of communist rule. Latvia's east, bordering Russia, is phenomenally beautiful. A combination of hills, forests and lakes are an absolute joy to behold - perfect for a short break away from things relaxing in a wooden cabin with a jetty stretching out into the morning mist of the water. You could be forgiven for thinking that you are in Switzerland or Slovenia and we'd highly recommend seeing it for yourself!
