Lithuanian Currency:  Euro
Lithuania has a lot of similarities in culture and background to its Baltic state neighbours to the north and has closer ties with Latvia and Estonia than the larger Russia and Poland surrounding it. Traditionally positioned on the crossing of major European trade routes, Lithuania has always been an industrial and progressive nation. Much of Lithuania's countryside is filled by towns, agriculture and industry but the cities are definitely worth visiting. The capital Vilnius is stunning with a strong mix of culture and design. A medieval Old Town is juxtaposed by grey Stalinist blocks. Large communities of people from neighbouring countries and a large Jewish minority create a bubbling atmosphere that needs to be experienced!
