The Kremlin is one of the top attractions in Nizhny, thanks to its cultural and historical importance as well as its dominant location on a hill overlooking the city.
This distinctive red-brick fortress was built in the beginning of the 16th century. Within the Kremlin you can visit a military museum featuring WWII vehicles, a cathedral, and government buildings. If you climb up the stairs along the walls, you'll be treated to a fantastic view of the Volga and Oka rivers converging below. Just don't expect to be provided with much information in English!
For a unique perspective of the Kremlin, you can view it from above if you ride the cable car that connects Nizhny Novgorod with the settlement of Bor across the Volga river.
