Sochi is to the Russians what Saint-Tropez is to the French: a glitzy summer getaway. Of course, the weather here is slightly less balmy than its French Riviera counterpart, but with its palm tree-lined boardwalks and numerous resorts, it's pleasing enough to visit in any season.

The city, located on the Black Sea, is famous for having hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics. As a result, there are numerous venues to see here including the half-pipe, the extreme park, the curling centre and the skiing courses that were left behind.

But there are plenty of other reasons to include Sochi on your travel itinerary - from its many parks and open spaces to delicious cuisine and a fascinating literary museum.
