Museu Picasso

Spain > Barcelona

The museum's collections

Museu Picasso was created through a donation of 574 of Picasso's paintings by one of his best friends - Jaume Sebart├ęs. In addition to these, all paintings that Picasso had donated to the city of Barcelona or were in collections of museums around the city were also transferred to the new location.

Picasso's love of Barcelona was vast and long after he had permanently settled in France, he donated over 1,000 of his own pieces of work to the museum in 1968, 5 years after it first opened its doors.

This astonishingly large collection of work by Picasso is one of the largest in the world comprising some 3,500 items on display. What's more is that in addition to the permanent collection displayed in 3 of the large adjoined buildings, there are ongoing temporary exhibitions that display a range of other modern art works, often including works by Picasso held in private collections or other museums around the world.
