One of the few castles in Europe built circular, this castle has a great story to tell.
The castle was originally built in the 14th Century for King James II of Majorca and overlooks the rest of the postcard pretty city. (Bellver meaning beautiful depicts this perfectly). From how perfectly preserved this building is, it's hard to believe it was built 700 years ago.
There are three towers that surround the large courtyard show this was a place to defend itself yet the Monarchs here had to face next to no battles. Instead, from the 18th Century to the Spanish Civil War (ended in the first half of 1900s), Bellver's large size was utilised as a prison - graffiti from prisoners still remain today.
Present day, the castle is home to the City History museum which means you can visit and walk around the grounds, or head to the top and see the beauty in which the castle was named after.
