Is There a Beach in Las Vegas?

Luxury hotels, casinos galore, all-night parties and all-you-can-eat buffets are things we'd associate with Las Vegas without question. Beautiful beaches, on the other hand? We're not so sure.

In reality, there are several beaches in and around Las Vegas, including Mandalay Bay Beach, Elia Beach and Lake Las Vegas Marina. From man-made, poolside beaches at hotels on The Strip, to lakeside shores with watersports on offer, you've got options if you're looking for a beach near Las Vegas.

If you're craving sand between your toes and a cocktail in hand, Las Vegas has you covered. So pack your sunscreen and get ready to party at one of our favorite beach spots in and around Sin City.

1. Mirage Las Vegas

Why should you visit this beach: Imagine stepping into an oasis that feels like a slice of tropical paradise, right in the heart of Las Vegas. This unique "beach," nestled within the Mirage, offers an escape unlike any other with its lush, rainforest-inspired design.

What sets this beach apart is not just its picturesque setting but also the comfort and convenience it offers. You can easily reserve your spot, be it on the cozy seating arrangements or in a private cabana, ensuring that your day of relaxation is guaranteed without any hassle.

And when it comes to refreshments, you're in for a treat. The Paradise Cafe is just a stone's throw away from the pool, serving a variety of delectable food and drinks.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Relaxing and swimming
• Sipping on cocktails from the poolside bar
• Hiring a cabana

Things to note: Non-hotel guests are welcome to rent poolside facilities. This means you can enjoy the luxurious beach setting even if you're not staying at the Mirage. However, be aware that the pricing varies between weekdays and weekends.

On weekends, you can rent the Private Oasis Seating for $60, the Mirage Daybed for $150, or go all out with a Main Pool Cabana for $400. These rentals are available from 10am to 6pm.

The rates are slightly lower during weekdays, with the Private Oasis Seating at $40, the Mirage Daybed at $125, and the Main Pool Cabana at $300. Please note that all prices mentioned in this article were calculated at the time of writing.

This beach has a dress code; smart beachwear is the norm here, so leave your jeans, pants, and athletic gear behind.

Best time to visit: If you visit during weekdays, you will be able to enjoy cheaper prices and fewer crowds.

If you visit during summer, you can enjoy the BARE Pool Lounge, which is an adults-only area, for guests 21 and over, features live DJs and a vibrant party vibe.

Did you know? The Killers, a famous rock group, named their 2020 album after the resort. 'Imploding The Mirage' featured the single 'Caution'.

2. Mandalay Bay Beach

Why should you visit this beach: This isn't just another poolside experience in Las Vegas; it's a full-fledged aquatic adventure that sets itself apart with an array of unique water activities. Mandalay Bay Beach offers an experience akin to a mini-oceanic getaway, right in the middle of the desert city.

The wave pool here offers the excitement of the surf; it's not every day you get to experience the thrill of ocean-like waves without even having to leave the city! It is made even more real by the fact that there is real sand on this poolside "beach".

For a more relaxing experience, drift away on the lazy river. This meandering waterway is perfect for a leisurely float, allowing you to unwind and soak in the sun as you glide along the gentle current.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Relaxing under the desert sun on the sandy beach
• Riding the waves at the wave pool
• Floating down the lazy river
• Enjoying live music at the beachside concert stage

Things to note: If you're staying at the hotel, you'll enjoy complimentary seating and entry to the pool area.

For those not staying at the hotel, you can gain access by hiring a cabana. The cost for these private retreats is $275 on weekdays or $500 on weekends. However, keep in mind that prices may vary depending on the season or change year by year.

The beach's signature attractions, the lazy river and wave pool, are open seasonally.

If you're looking forward to the wave pool, note that there are height restrictions in place for safety reasons.

For a leisurely float down the lazy river, tubes are available for purchase. But, if you prefer, you're welcome to bring your own tube.

Mandalay Bay Beach is a family-friendly destination. The expansive pool area caters to guests of all ages, making it an ideal spot for family fun in the sun.

Best time to visit: Because of the opening of the lazy river and wave pools, warmer months are generally busier. But the pool itself is open year-round.

Weekdays are quieter and cheaper for accommodation.

Did you know? The pool area covers 11 acres and features 2,700 tons of sand. They import the sand from California!

3. Tahiti Village

Why should you visit this beach: The moment you step into this lush oasis, you'll be transported to a world where palm trees sway gently in the breeze and waterfalls create a serene backdrop, perfect for relaxation and escape from the everyday.

The pool area at Tahiti Village is surrounded by an environment that replicates the idyllic and tranquil vibes of Tahiti. This "beach" features a lazy river as well, lined with Tahiti torches, creating a relaxing atmosphere that will take you away from the hustle and bustle of Sin City.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Drifting along the lazy river
• Enjoying a soak in hot tubs
• Relaxing on the sandy beach
• Sipping signature cocktails at the Tiki-themed bar area

Things to note: A key point to note is that the entire pool area, including the lazy river, is exclusively available to guests of Tahiti Village Resort. This means that access to these facilities is not available through the purchase of a day pass.

For those who are guests at Tahiti Village, there's good news. You can enjoy complimentary tubes for the lazy river.

However, it's important to be aware of the temporary closure of the lazy river. From November 27, 2023, to February 10, 2024, the lazy river will be closed for maintenance.

Best time to visit: You can get budget suites at this resort from September through to November, excluding Halloween.

We suggest starting your stay on a Monday for better deals.

Did you know? The lazy river at Tahiti Village Resort contains over 185,000 gallons of water.

4. Elia Beach

Why should you visit this beach: If you are looking for a party "beach", Elia Beach is your go-to destination. Inspired by the iconic Mykonos beaches, Elia Beach is known as a party hotspot.

Elia Beach often combines beachy vibes with DJ performances and has a nightclub-like atmosphere which might not be for everyone. That being said, if you are ready to put on your best beach outfit and socialize, this is the place for you!

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Live DJ performances
• Poolside lounging in cabanas
• Dining and drinks

Things to note: Open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only, with doors opening at 11am, Elia Beach is an adults-only destination. You must be 21 or over to enter, as it caters to an adult clientele.

For guests of the resort, there's no cover charge to enjoy Elia Beach. However, if you're not staying at the resort, be prepared to pay an entry fee, which is typically around $40, although prices can vary so please check before you visit.

This beach has a dress code. Jeans and cargo shorts are not permitted. We recommend checking the requirements and dress accordingly to avoid any disappointment during your visit.

Be aware that certain items are prohibited at Elia Beach. This includes Go Pros and SLR Cameras, as part of the policy to maintain a certain ambiance and privacy for guests.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit is when a world-famous DJ is performing here, so check the program before visiting.

Elie Beach is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and closes in November.

Did you know? The Virgin Hotel used to be the Hard Rock Hotel, and superstar DJ Deadmau5 performed as part of the opening ceremony.

5. Grand Pool Complex

Why should you visit this beach: This sprawling aquatic paradise, one of the largest in Las Vegas, covering an impressive 6.5 acres. Here, you will find four distinct pools, each offering a unique atmosphere and experience.

Complementing the pools are five bars scattered throughout the complex. These bars serve a variety of refreshing drinks and cocktails, perfect for sipping as you soak up the sun or lounge by the water.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Relaxing and swimming in four pools
• Floating along the Lazy River
• Winding down in one of three large whirlpools
• Hiring daybeds and cabanas

Things to note: The Grand Pool Complex is exclusive to the guests of the MGM Grand Hotel. As part of their entry procedure, the staff will check for room keys, so it's crucial to have your key with you when you visit the pool.

You can hire daybeds and cabanas in the complex. Please note that the rates for these amenities can vary depending on the season and the day of the week.

The Grand Pool Complex has a strict dress code, which does not allow sports or athletic attire, torn clothing, baggy clothing, or hard-soled shoes.

Best time to visit: Known as one of the best pool areas in Vegas, Grand Pool Complex will be busy all summer.

You can get deals in winter, especially in January. However, in winter, some facilities, such as the lazy river are closed.

Did you know? The MGM Grand has over 5,000 rooms. When opened in 1993, this made it the largest in the world at that time.

It's also one casino that Danny Ocean and his crew robbed in the 2001 film Ocean's Eleven.

6. Lake Las Vegas Marina

Why should you visit this beach: Nestled in a unique setting, Lake Las Vegas is surrounded by the picturesque beauty of desert mountains. While this isn't a beach or belongs to a hotel, we simply couldn't skip it on our list!

What truly sets Lake Las Vegas Marina apart are the water sports available on the lake. Unlike the hotel pools in the city, Lake Las Vegas offers a variety of aquatic activities that add an element of adventure to your visit.

Here, you can have a fun day under the sun, enjoying different water sports. Whether you're a fan of kayaking, paddleboarding, or just enjoying a leisurely boat ride, the lake provides a perfect setting for these activities.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Paddleboarding , kayaking and pedal boats
• Hiring electric surfboard, flyboard or jetpack
• Enjoying quiet walks along the waterfront
• Dining at the lakeside restaurants

Things to note: If you would prefer to visit a beach, the two major resorts in the area, the Westin and Hilton, boast private beach areas, which are only accessible to their guests.

If you are not staying at these resorts, there's no need to worry. Lake Las Vegas is surrounded by a variety of rental properties, including homestays, many of which also provide access to the beach.

Even if you're not staying at a property with direct beach access, you can still enjoy the water through various rental equipment options. Lake Las Vegas Marina offers a range of rental services, including boats and paddleboards.

Best time to visit: Many of the rental companies are seasonal and often close in November, so plan your visit accordingly.

It is good to keep in mind that the open desert landscape can also get windier in winter. So visit in spring and summer to make sure you can get access and enjoy pleasant weather.

7. Boulder Beach

Why should you visit this beach: If you're seeking a serene escape from the non-stop energy of Las Vegas, Boulder Beach is the perfect retreat. Unlike the other "beaches" listed above, this is a real picturesque beach offers a peaceful escape from the neon lights of Las Vegas.

The beach's natural beauty, with its expansive views of Lake Mead and the surrounding landscape, offers a refreshing change of pace. It's an opportunity to connect with nature, enjoy the tranquility of the water, and take in the stunning vistas.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Swimming and sunbathing at North and South Swim Beaches
• Enjoying lunch underneath shaded picnic areas
• Camping next to Lake Mead
• Hiring a boat at Lake Mead Marina

Things to note: Boulder Beach is open to the public, making it easily accessible for everyone.

However, it's important to note that entering the Lake Mead National Recreational Area, where Boulder Beach is located, requires an entrance fee. For a private vehicle, the cost is $25, while individuals on foot, bike, or motorcycle are charged $15 per person.

Boulder Beach offers a more natural, rugged beach experience, so it's advisable to bring your own deckchairs or beach mats. Unlike more commercial beaches, Boulder Beach does not have luxurious facilities like cabanas.

The beach is open until dusk, giving you plenty of time to soak in the serene atmosphere and enjoy the lakeside experience.

Best time to visit: Spring to early fall offers pleasant weather for water activities. From June to August, it often goes beyond 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while in May and September, it dips to around 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Avoid December to February as temperatures can drop to freezing.

Did you know? Lake Mead is a leading freshwater lake for scuba diving. A significant factor behind the popularity is the B-29 Superfortress Bomber from World War II, which crashed into the lake. You can only scuba to see it on a guided tour operated by Las Vegas Scuba.

8. Willow Beach

Why should you visit this beach: If you are done beach-hopping from hotel to hotel in Las Vegas, why not try an actual beach on the river? Tucked away in a beautiful setting, surrounded by steep canyons, Willow Beach is a unique blend of sandy and rocky shores, set along the Colorado River.

Willow Beach offers a variety of experiences, from relaxing on the soft sand to exploring the more rugged, rocky areas. The contrast between the gentle river and the dramatic canyons creates a stunning backdrop, perfect for both relaxation and exploration.

What activities can you enjoy there:

• Renting a boat, or enjoy guided rafts and kayak trips
• Enjoying a picnic or dine at Willow Beach Grill Restaurant
• Variety of beaches, the Emerald Cave and hot springs
• Fishing at the pier

Things to note: These beaches and recreation areas are open to the public. However, it is good to note that the standard National Park Service charges apply.

If you're arriving in a private vehicle, the cost is $25. Alternatively, if you're entering on foot, the fee is $15 per person.

An important safety note to remember is that swimming is not allowed in the actual marinas and launch areas.

If you'd like to explore beyond the main beach area, hiring a boat or paddle craft is a fantastic option. This allows you to venture out into the river, where you can discover secluded coves and perhaps find your own private beach along the river.

Best time to visit: We recommend visiting between spring and fall for warmer temperatures.

If you are looking for a quieter experience, avoid national holidays, and weekends.

Did you know? Willow Beach is in between Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. People often launch here to embark on a 12-mile journey to the Hoover Dam.

9. Laguna Main Beach

Why should you visit this beach: If "beach" means dipping your toes in the sand and listening to the crashing of the ocean waves, then Laguna Main Beach is a relatively short drive from Las Vegas.

What sets Laguna Beach apart is its stunning coastline, dotted with enchanting coves, intriguing tide pools, and mysterious sea caves waiting to be explored. The coastal bluffs that frame the beach provide some of the most breathtaking views you'll find in Southern California.

The downtown area is dotted with boutique stores, fabulous restaurants, art galleries, and historic landmarks. After a day in the sun, you can explore the charming streets, indulge in some retail therapy, or enjoy a delicious meal with a view.

Things to note: Please be aware of the presence of rip currents, a common occurrence at many beaches, including Laguna. For your safety, it's highly recommended to swim near lifeguard stations. Additionally, always pay attention to posted warnings and flags.

While not a constant presence, jellyfish can occasionally be found in the waters off Laguna Beach.

Best time to visit: The beach is accessible year-round. That being said, summer is the peak season in Laguna Beach. The weather is warm and sunny, perfect for beach activities. However, it's also the busiest time, with larger crowds and higher prices.

The town hosts several renowned events, such as the Pageant of the Masters, Festival of Arts, and Sawdust Art Festival. These events typically take place during the summer months and draw large crowds to Laguna Beach.

The fall offers a great balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds. The temperatures are still warm enough for beach activities, and the water is usually still comfortable for swimming.

Winters are mild in Laguna Beach. While it might be too cool for traditional beach activities, it's a great time for scenic walks, exploring art galleries, and enjoying the town without the crowds. Also, hotel prices tend to be lower.

10. Santa Monica State Beach

Why should you visit this beach: A little further from Las Vegas, Santa Monica State Beach is a quintessential Southern California destination, offering a stunning blend of natural beauty and vibrant beach culture.

A major highlight of Santa Monica State Beach is the iconic Santa Monica Pier. This famous landmark is a full-fledged entertainment hub. It houses an amusement park complete with a Ferris wheel and roller coaster, offering fun and excitement for all ages.#

Things to note: Santa Monica State Beach is accessible throughout the year, making it a great destination no matter the season. The beach stretches for 3.5 miles along the coastline, and locals typically refer to different parts of the beach as either north or south of the pier.

While jellyfish are present off the coast of California, it's worth noting that stinging species are relatively rare near Santa Monica Beach.

Best time to visit: Opening hours are sunrise to sunset but facilities around the beach may have different operating hours.

Summer months are the peak tourist season at the beach, leading to larger crowds. For those seeking a more serene visit with favorable weather, the months of April, May, September, or October are recommended.

If your interests include swimming or surfing, the period from June to September is optimal, as water temperatures during these warmer months are more conducive to these activities.

Santa Monica State Beach is among the most popular beaches in Los Angeles. As such, it can get quite crowded, especially during weekends and holidays. For a more relaxed experience, consider arriving early in the day or visiting on weekdays.
