There are two wonderful routes that will take you from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas. Choose between driving north, through the Rocky Mountains into Moab or driving south through the deserts and the Grand Canyon.

The Moab Route takes you to Moab, one of the most beautiful and impressive small cities in the USA. You'll cover 980 miles and 16 hours of driving time.

The Grand Canyon Route takes you 940 miles for 16 hours of driving time. You'll cover beautiful scenery and be able to visit the mighty Grand Canyon on your way to Las Vegas.

Best road trip route from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas

The Moab Route takes you through the beautiful states of Colorado, Utah, and Nevada. You'll get to stop in incredible cities like Denver and Moab on the way.

On this route, you'll get the opportunity to visit some must see stops along the way, like Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Plus, you can take a brief detour to Rocky Mountain National Park and Zion National Park.

Keep in mind that the Rocky Mountain National Park uses a timed entry permit system. Please check the national park's website to see if you need to make a reservation before your visit.

The Grand Canyon Route is a quaint route taking you through Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada. You'll see famous national parks like Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon, one of the most stunning natural landmarks in the world.

Along with the rural and natural highlights, you can visit natural hot springs and ancient ruins. There are also many state parks and forests along the way, so pack your hiking gear.

How to drive from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas

The Moab Route

Starting out in Colorado Springs, Colorado, make your way north to the city of Denver. After exploring the big city, make your way back on route.

Continue on a little further into the city of Boulder. Here you can experience a fun mixture of art, museums, breweries, and outdoor adventures.

Next, make your way back on route and continue on to Rocky Mountain National Park. Here, you'll see the towering Rocky Mountains and some of the most impressive natural backdrops in the country.

From the national park, make your way to beautiful Vail, Colorado. After Vail, continue on route through the deserts of western Colorado and into Utah.

Once you hit Utah, continue on through the red rock formations until you get to the city of Moab. From here, drive through the stunning desert landscapes until you reach iconic Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Grand Canyon Route

From iconic Colorado Springs, continue on route south to the historic city of Pueblo. Next drive west to Pagosa Springs.

Continue on route west and drive through some of the most striking landscapes in America. You'll pass Native American historic sites and cave dwellings that are well worth a visit.

Next, continue on to the famous Oljato-Monument Valley. This landscape is like something out of a postcard.

From here, make your way to the world famous Grand Canyon. After marveling at the views of this incredible wonder, make your way back on route and continue on into the fantastic city of Las Vegas.

Take in the surroundings of Moab, Utah

Moab is one of the most special communities in the USA, full of adventurous activities and captivating natural scenery. The city itself is small but full of things to do, restaurants, cafes, and bars to enjoy.

The city lies about halfway on the Moab Route. Moab is a great stop in your journey to enjoy some incredible outdoor adventures and some unique landscapes. Plus, the city is known for having some of the most stunning red rock landscapes in the United States.

Once in Moab, most visitors go straight to the Arches National Park. This must-see preserved area is known for its incredible red rock arches and hiking trails.

If you love prehistoric destinations, then Moab Giants Dinosaur Park is a must. Travel back in time to the original Jurassic Park and experience this unique place filled with dinosaur fossils and interactive exhibits.

This valley is known for its sandstone rock formations that have been sculpted by nature. Some of these towers are at heights of 400 to 1,000 feet tall, making them visible from miles away.

Nearby sights worth visiting include the Gouldings Trading Post Museum. This is one of the most popular museums in Utah and shows the rich history of trading, tourism, and culture in this area.

On The Grand Canyon Route

Best time to go on a road trip from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas

Characterized by a mostly desert climate, Las Vegas and the surrounding region can be attractive year round. Be prepared for snowy conditions in Colorado if visiting during the winter, but mountain and desert sceneries covered in snow will also be amazing.

Summer in this area is going to be hot and sunny. The states in this region have very low humidity, making for a dry summer.

Average temperatures range between 80 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. As you move out of the mountains of Denver into the Desserts of Arizona, Utah and Nevada, temperatures will rise with the possibilities of reaching highs of 100.

Summer is typically the busiest season for visiting many of the National Parks. Summer is also the time of festivals like the IHeartRadio Music Festival.

Winters in the start of your destination will be characterized with more snow and lower temperatures compared to the rest of your trip. Colorado is a winter destination for many ski tourists and may be busier at some of the resorts.

Average temperatures range around 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit. As you move into the desert states, you'll find no snow and temperatures will remain around a consistent 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures may still drop in the evening.

Spring and fall will bring in the most consistent temperatures throughout your route. You'll find low humidity, blue skies, and comfortable temperatures. Average temperatures will range between 70-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall sees the annual Las Vegas Pride Festival and in spring you can experience the Electric Daisy Carnival Music Festival.

Las Vegas is considered the Disneyland for adults! Between Cirque du Soleil, burlesque shows, concerts and sports games, there are always events happening in the fabulous city. Some larger notable events that take place are Electric Daisy Carnival Music Festival, the Las Vegas Marathon, and the World Series of Poker. No matter when you go, you will always find something to do.
